where to stay in KL?

Looking at previous posts Le Meridien looks amazing but unfortunately slightly out of our range, so any other advice greatly received.

We're coming to KL on Sat (1st March), haven't booked anywhere yet, hoping to find accomodation on arrival if possible? We're going on a Similan liveaboard from the 4th, so just need 3 nights accom. We were hoping for a beach bungalows type set up, hoping for the under £50/night range.

Thanks

Hannah

There is loads of accommodation so do not think you will have a problem. We stayed in a beachfront bungalow at Baan Khao Lak which was pretty nice and close to town to walk out for dinner. There were new hotels going up everywhere though, so you will be spoilt for choice. We booked through www.sawasdee.com which has a comprehensive listing of KL hotels, so a good place to scout. KL is a small town with small town easy feel. Try the massage guy right beside the BKL - the man knows what he is up to! Have a great holiday.

Whilst there is a load of accommodation, occupancy at the moment is very high with many resorts fully booked. Our resort, for instance, Cousin Bungalows in Bang Niang has been turning people away almost daily. A week or so ago we had a look at the Nang Thong Biungalows, Green Beach, and Gerd & Noi on Nang Thong Beach and they were all fully booked. Try www.khaolak.de a German site but specialising in the type of accommodation you are looking for but will communicate with you in English.

If you are really desperate when you get here, the Amsterdam bungalows just behind us are very cheap (well within your budget)and cheerful and have vacancies I think. Bungalows on the beach are few and at a premium.

Hi there

I am trying to find somewhere to stay in Khao Lak for July and have been scouting the internet. I think i might book up the Ayara Villas as they ahve beach bungalows and are voted in TA's speciality lodging, if you look on Sawadee.com they have good prices.

Good luck and i am sure you will have a great time.

Take care

The Ayara Villas is an excellent resort with some villas sea facing and restaurant directly on the beach, others across the first road back and then a brand new hotel room complex with restaurant and small but beautiful well tended garden/ pond around it with lovely lotus in bloom at the moment.
