Young (backpacker) vibe in Khao Lak

Hi everyone,

We are a young couple in our mid 20s and going to Thailand for 16 days in Febuary.

We are thinking about staying in Khao Lak for a week, but I am not 100 % sure if it is what we are looking for after reading through the forums. It feels like Khao Lak does attract many honeymooners and a middle aged crowd.

I am looking for great beaches (with snorkelling), hidden bays only to be found after exploring the area by scooter and bars and restaurants in the evening with a predominantely young crowd - similar to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Phangan where we stayed before.

Do you think I will find all these things in Khao Lak?

To be honest, you might want to stay here for only 3 nights. You could explore the area in one day, Similan island for another day, and then check out.

There is no any beach party here, no jet ski, no banana boat. Phuket or Samui would be your better choice.

I think that you could also check out Ko Lanta... the beach where Where Else is located is meant to be pretty good.... or head back to the old faithful KPN!

In that case, I think we'll stay in Khao Lak for a few days only and then heading south to Phi Phi and Koh Lanta...

Have you got any suggestions of where to stay in Khao Lak for beach bungalows with AC (max. 2500 THB per night). I tried Green Beach for bamboo style bungalows but they never got back to me...

Thanks for your help guys!!

It is quite difficult to find the accommodation for 2,500 THB per night for "beach bungalows" for a few days in Feb.

You might need to look at Koh Koa Kao.

Ayara Villas has a "Twin Bungalow" for B2500 - breakfast included. Try:

Great area - nice resort.

I would tend to agree with the previous posters though - Khao Lak is an exceptional area - but us oldsters have it tied up and aren't letting go. Not much of a young party scene.
