Recent stay at Ramada Khao Lak; extra bits

Hi All

Firstly, thanks to all of you on this forum, we gleaned valuable info for our stay at the beginning of the month. I have posted a review of the Ramada KL in reviews but wanted to add a couple off additional bits of info.

1. Transport to KL- Mr Roth (recomended by Jonathon) drove us from Club Med Phuket to the Ramada. He is a great guy who communicated with us very promptly through email before departure and while we were away when we wanted to change our pick up time. He is very friendly, drives well and has a good van (if you are a family with a bit of luggage the van is great). His rate was better than the hotels and nothing was too much trouble, he is very genuine. He also drove us from KL to Phuket airport when we left. We contacted him on songyos_rtran@hotmail.com

2. Great restaurant- Takieng is on the main road about 600m from the Ramada, we ate the best Thai food here for our entire trip. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, it was quite busy and everyone seemed very happy. The banana flower salad is memorable! We ate here 2 of our 4 nights in KL. Prices were really reasonable too.

3. There is a local market run 3 days a week in an area behind the 711 shop, Monday it is a small market, Wednesday and Saturday it is bigger. We really enjoyed browsing here, there was meat and fish, fruit, vege's, clthes, hardware, food, toys, fireworks, etc, etc It was really interesting. The fresh produce looked really fresh and the fish looked fantastic- no smell at all. We indulged in some fireworks to set off down at the beach with the kids. They are illegal here in Western Australia, it was a lot of fun

KL was a dream destination for us and I am sure that we will be back.

Hi Gill

Thanks for your great post, we (family of 4) are ending our Thailand trip with 3 nights in Khao Lak and are looking forward to the peace and quiet. We will definitely be trying Takieng. Can you recommend any small trips around KL.

Thanks Donna

Did someone mention the Takieng?

Latest photographs can be found at-

For trips around Khao Lak (within a 30 minute drive) you could consider-

Lampi Waterfall

Khao Lak Lam Ru National Park

Takuapa Old Town and Market

For a start that is!

Hey Russets,

What is the model name of the car you rented from budget?

did you pre-book it?

What day rate?

We are interested in driving ourselves to the local national park... can one drive to the waterfalls w/o having to hike up to them too?

We are staying in KL in Feb. Our hotel's price for their shuttle van from HKT airport to KL hotel is 1500 BHT each way (for both of us).

How does Mr. Roth's rate from KL to HKT airport compare?

Did you find the walk from the Ramada hotel to the beach a bit far?

AskOksana,

Details of our hire car are-

PFAR, New Honda CR-V 4WD 2.0 E Auto ABS 2A/B

Including PAE (Personal Accident & Effects), CDW (Colision Damage Waiver) and TP (Theft Protection).

For 2440 THB/day

This was a promotional rate.

The latest price leaflet shows a Honda Civic at 1400THB/Day for 22+days.

In Khao Sok you cannot drive up to the waterfalls. They are located around the park between 2km and 6km from the visitor center. You can get a map and guide from the visitor centre which lists them all, but you will have to walk to them. We went to 4 of them, the last one was 5km from the visitors centre. This took 4 1/2 hours to get there and back in total. The paths start off quite easy, but they do become difficult, so you will need suitable footware.

Russets

did you reserve your car via BUDGET's Phuket website

or via the Ramada?

and did they deliver it to the Ramada in KL, no problem?

I'm handicapped, can't hike up to waterfalls.

If we rent a car & want to go on a self drive tour to the local

national park... are there things to see JUST DRIVING?

Any recommends on self drive in the park & up the coast

towards the SURIN ISLANDS pier?

thanks!
