1500-1800 baht seems to be the going rate at the moment.
A couple well-known drivers of good repute - Mr Sam and Mr Mor - can be found here:
LOTS of great restaurants in Khao Lak:
My favorites are Jai,and the beachside restaurant at the Baan Khao Lak - as well as breakfast at the Nang Thong Bungalows (fried potatoes with egg bacon and onions - yummy!).

If you have a look at this link it gives you ideas of what to do in and around KL
There is also the AsiaSafari and Elephant Village which is just outside KL opposite the Merlin Resort.
Shopping is not one of KL's strong points, It has the typical souvenirs, T-shirts etc and more upscale ones opening but nowhere near the variety or choice of Patong but spend some of your holiday $s in KL as the local economy still needs support to rebuild it.
Monty the Tailor is highly recommended for his unique and personal service, prices and standard of service. His website is at
Would also like to hear from anyone who has been to the Gibbon Sanctuary. Is it worth a visit?
If you mean the Gibbon Sanctuary on Phuket, my understanding from someone who'd been there is that it is not really a gibbon sanctuary, though there are a couple of friendly ones there. No doubt an actual visitor will give first hand advice.
Can anyone who has visited the gibbon sanctuary on Phuket give me any information about it.? Is it worth a visit?
Perhaps better to post on Phuket Forum.
Sorry I am very new to this. Thought I was on the forum. Have not had a reply from your driver but will keep trying. Thank's for your help
If you manage to get out of your sick bed and get into town see if Monty the Tailor is open (on main street. on hill side of road). If he is ask him for taxi driver reference (and any other local knowledge). Give him my regards.
Not sure a trip to the "gibbon sanctuary" is worth the hassle.
