Hallo, Itis a great idea.Journey by train is short in comparison by road. There are several trains between delhi and agra. The best is bhopal shatabdi express leaves at 6 am from delhi reaches agra by 8.15 appx. Same train depart for delhi between 20.15-22.30.You can also add a short excursion of fatehpur sikri forty kms outside agra with agra tour . Thanks Rashidagraindia
I think the best way for you to travel would be by train and the best train for you would be 2002 Bhopal shatabadi express which leaves Delhi at 0615 Hrs and reaches Agra at 0812 HRS and you can use the same train to go back to Delhi in the Evening 2001 Bhopal Shatabadi Express which leaves Agra Cantt at 2030 HRS and reaches New Delhi at 2230 HRS.....you will have the whole day in Agra in which you can explore the city....
The ticket for chair car is around Rs. 400 one way and Ist AC is Rs. 700.
You will have to purchase separate tickets for each way....and the tickets can be bought in advance....
Taking the Shatabadi express reduces your traveling time to the minimum....secondly it is very comfortable....saves you from driving 9-10 hrs in total (from Delhi to Agra and Back) breakfast is served on board....and on return from Agra to Delhi Dinner is served on board.....
Agra is a wonderful city....the ancient capitals of the Mughals and greats sights to explore...
1.) The world Famous Taj Mahal
3.) Itmad-ud-Daulah....Famous as the Baby Taj (It is said that the inspiration of the Taj Mahal was taken from this building)
4.) Fatehpur Sikri....the deserted capital of the mughal king Akbar....(About 35 KMS from Agra
5.) Sikandra....Tomb of the mughal king Akbar....
I feel at a comfortable pace one can manage to cover four out of the five places mentioned above....keep in mind June is about the hottest time of the year in Delhi/Agra with temperature soaring as high as 45 Degree Celcius.
Both Sunil and Deepak have answered well. Take their advice.
Hi, every suggestion is important and can fit for some tourist and may not Fit for every tourist .
r eturn to Delhi by shatabadi express and arriving late in Delhi was a very long day for some of the traveller ..the idea of taking early train for Agra-Delhi is comfortable.
Have. A great trip to Agra
This is a fantastic way to see 3 main sitess (i.e. taj, fort and fatehpur sikri) in one day. Its a AC coach tour including all entries. No need of prior booking. As you arrive at Agra Cantt railway station, go to the office of UP tourism which is near the exit gate of station.
I strongly recommend this.
Here is the detailed itinerary with contact nos.
We were in Agra on December 2011 and the problem was the delay of the trains...we spent 9 hours at the railway station :-) It is very interesting but no funny :-) So it is better to have a time reserve some time for this unexpected events. The best time for vistit Taj Mahal is the sunrise, there is no so much people and it is lovely. If you want a good ricksha driver in Agra you can contact Elam. He is very pleasant and you can trust him. Don´t belive the travel agencies in India, we have realy bad experience with them. Elamkhan@yahoo.com, +919760516852
Have a nice trip!
