What to take to give to the children begging?

We are visting the Golden Triangle in Nov. All booked with a tour. Thinking about whether I should take anything for the kids begging on the street or is it best to find an orphanage and give some money? Thx

I would not advise giving anything to beggars on the street at all in any place and under any circumstances. Donations to orphanages etc, are a better option.

Hey, it will be good to give some cloths or food to the children on the road instead of giving money to them or in any orphanages. As orphanages have many Donner so children who are there is in a good condition than the road side children.

Please refrain from giving money . That encourages more begging. The kids parents force them to beg on street for money. If you want to help you can buy them food, fruits, biscuits or clothes. Alternatively you can donate clothes or books or food to orphanage.

Please do not give any money. Buy them food if you want, but open the packets else it will get recycled to the shopkeeper for money.

Sad as it is, begging is big business and run by organised gangs most of the time. When you give them money, you encourage the gangleaders to bring more people into the business. It does not really benefit the truly needy.

My personal view is that you don't give anything to beggars, particularly children. India in theory has universal education, but as you'll see for yourself there are a huge number of children not attending school. Donating to a local charity for children is the better option. For example, take a look at this thread: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g304…

If you do want to give something out (and when you're coming from the UK the poverty you see really is difficult to see), try food. Consider buying some fresh fruit from a vendor and keeping it in your bag. Small sweets work too - something they can eat there and then. As others have pointed out, begging is frequently organised by gangs, and money rarely helps the children themselves.

Just be warned that children can be exceptionally persistent and if you're seen to be generous handing anything out you'll be followed.

Something I do encourage is buying small items from enterprising homeless people. You'll see lots of people making handicrafts and selling any number of things. Some of it may be a bit crap, while other things can make great souvenirs. Buying something like this can be a great way of supporting business and enterprise, which is much more sustainable than just handing out money.

Dont give anything to beggars, it will just encourage them beg more.

Also about donations to orphanages, think twice, research about them and only then donate. A lot of bogus organisations are operating quite nicely in India. Avoid donating anything to such people..

Good Luck

Donate to a UK charity that works in India. That way you can be sure your money will be used wisely, plus Gift Aid will add another 25% to your donation. I support Help Children of India (https://www.helpchildrenofindia.org).

Try not to give them money. If you give to a few, within a minute, there will be a lot of kids and you may feel being stuck in the middle.
