You can add Moodabidri, which is about 35 Kms from Mangalore, known as Jain Kashi, famous for thousand piller temple.

Also Bekal fort, which is the largest fort in Kasargod, Kerala, India, spreading over 40 acres. An important features of this fort are the water-tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening towards the south, the magazine for keeping ammunition and the broad and wide steps leading to the Observation Tower which is a rarity

There are many spiritual centres around Mangalore

- Kateel temple near airport. Other prominent temples are Udupi , Kollur, Dharmasthala and Sringeri. If you prefer temple circuit base yourself at Udupi where you have plenty of budget hotels ( Hotel Rukmini near temple offers decent rooms for Rs.500)

If you are looking for beach scene head to St Mary's Island near Udupi or to Sai Vishram resort , scenic private beach resort near Kundapur. You can also look at going to Thalassery, Kerala - just 3 hours by train. Stay at Ayisha Manzil Thalassery - a good home stay set in a lush garden, atop a hill with great sea views and access to beach. If you are a foodie, you will love their Mopilla cuisine
