Chloroquine and Proguanil - side effects

Did anybody have any serious side effects after using these anti-malarian drugs? I was told by the doctor that Malarone is much better (but also much more expensive).

I had the weird dreams, and nausea even taking them with meals.

Now I just take the weekly one, suits me a lot better,

Hi

This is a list of the common side effects from net doctor

Disturbances of the gut such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea or abdominal pain

Mouth ulcers

Inflammation of the lining of the mouth (stomatitis)

Reversible hair loss

Skin rashes

The side effects listed above may not include all of the side effects reported by the drug's manufacturer.

The weird dreams is usually attributed to larium.

I take mine with food and have had no problems.

I've taken Chloroquine and Proguanil twice without side effects. I always take them with food as that usually helps.

Never had any serious side effects from them, but do always take them with food, like many others.

May I just point out that Malarone is distinctly different to Chloroquine.

Malarone contains Atovaquone + proguanil.
