Hi, I am glad you posted this item, as we also would like to include a trip to the Taj Mahal whilst we are in Cavolissm on 13th Feb. Does anyone know as what internal flights are like in India and would it be best to organise the trip ie flights etc in the UK before we leave? Presumably the tourist visa would cover such a visit?

Many thanks

Think it is possible from there, probably be with Indian Airlines, be prepared for delays if it is they are renowned for it! If you have to fly to Mumbai, the flight is about an hour. Hope this helps abit!

I understand that it's best to avoid the Taj Mahal on Fridays as entry is free and it gets very crowded.

Day Tripper tours do packages there...they are based between Candolim and Calangute on the main drag:

Tourist visa will cover trip to Taj Mahal.

You need to get to Mumbai, which is about 650 kms from Goa,you can go on train, dont know how long it takes as we went on Catamaran but its no longer in service. Then fly to Delhi, its about a 2 hour flight usually on Indian Airlines. Then you need to get to Agra which you can easily arrange once you get to Delhi. I would advise to go by train as the roads are lethal, we did the triangle by road, its real nail biting stuff, you dont need it. Taj is very busy indeed on Fridays, lots of children on school trips.

Internal flights in India are expensive that is if you can get one, its not easy, they always seem to be booked up, better to book in U.K. before you go.

When we went we could only get a flight back, we had to go up on train which took 18 hours.

Sorry, made a mistake in the above, you dont need to go to Mumbai to fly to Delhi, you can fly from Dabolim.

We went to the Taj in January. Booked with Daytripper in Calangute. The cost was about £320.00 per person. I am sure this can be done cheaper independently but as a first timer to Delhi I was glad of the organized tour. The flight to Delhi is about two and a half hours and we flew with Spicejet. No food on flight so stock up with samosas in the airport. Delhi to Agra is then two hours by train. The trip was very well organised and our drivers and guides were great. It was cool during the day but FREEZING (YES 0 DEGREES!!) at night. The hotel had air con but no heating so pack your thermal nightie and bedsocks, a passion killer yes but after catching the 6 am train to Agra and falling back into bed at midnight you wont care! We had a fantastic time and some wonderful memories, hope you do too.
