South Goa beaches and shacks

Hi there we've only been once to Goa for a week xmas 2007 thought it was brill we are going 19th Dec this year for 2 weeks staying at Calungute. We fancy travelling to the south for a few days. Can you recommend any good beaches with decent shacks to stay and will there be plenty of availability around the 26, 27th dec. We like a little nightlife few bars etc, decent food and we're happy, we would even move around from beach to beach if possible.

thanks

Do you mean that you want to stay in beach huts? If so, you may wish to search on the forum for Agonda or Palolem or Cola Beach, also check out the review section where beach huts are likely to feature under speciality lodging heading rather than hotels.

Plenty of beach huts at Palolem and Agonda, but no one can assure you of availability on the 2 dates you mention. Bearing in mind that it's bang on Xmas, you may wish to book somewhere in advance or else rock up early morning & find somewhere with availability (prices likely to be at their highest then, as if you didn't know!). All the beach shacks will be open there evening - lots of gap year people and, as it's Xmas, there'll be families too. Yoga types too and Palolem is also very popular with the trendy Bombay crowd. In my view, the north end of Palolem is less frenetic by evening. Patnem is nother beach just a mile or so south of Palolem - not so busy, very quiet by night but very special. Great place to relax and take stock.

If you want a hotel or guest house instead, there are beaches all the way down from Central Goa - Colva, Varca, Benaulim, Cavelossim. Again, loads of places to stay and if you're only staying a couple of nights, pick the location you want and find somewhere as cheap and cheerful as you can get anything that time of year since you'll hardly be spending much time in the room.

i reckon 95% of all places will be full on those dates ,and renting a place for 2 days might be difficult also.if goa has a bad year you may be lucky but its always very busy on those dates...

you should be able to get rooms up to the 29 dec as that is when all the indians start to arrive .some a bit earlier.i would suggest you book in advance though.

been advised on this post to avoid colva.so i am.
