New Year in Goa

New Year in Goa

Please help me.

Myself and Wifey are touring India & wanting to spend New Year in Goa but getting really confused.

Where should we go in Goa. We like Bars & a wide variety of local restaurants - but don't want it over commercialised or too clubby.

We want a nice beach with something to do (some watersports & sunloungers) but not too crowded.

Any recomendations for Resort?

As for hotel, clean, good shower & (quiet) A/C, but not bothered about hotel restaurant, swimming pool or sat. TV etc. Any Reco's?

Also - most hotels want to charge £££'s for a special gala dinner on NYE. Can we avoid this - what do people do on NYE.

Sorry for long post - Goa only confusing part or 2 week tour - I thought it was gonna be the easy part!

Hi

you haven't said whether you have booked yet and which part of Goa you are visiting. I personally prefer the North but you have to realize that most of the hotels are quite basic few offer a/c but not needed at New Year as a ceiling fan does the job. The beach is endless and the majority of people head down and find there favourite shack for the day and in the evening you can choose from the variety of restaurants. We usually have a nice meal slightly later than normal and head back down to the beach where every shack has a party with a bonfire. At midnight they throw a scarecrow on the fire to represent 2007 and then let of fireworks . Positioned correctly you get a view of everyone of the shacks and their fireworks and you can choose which shack has the best dance music. By reading the posts you can decide which part of the North you fancy and personally we prefer Candolim which has a large range of restaurants and you are a taxi away from anywhere.Availability this late maybe your biggest problem we go self catering and have found an apartment so we can eat out somewhere different each night and the prices are really cheap. You haven't said where you are touring and is it an organised tour that actually requires a lot of stamina. Last year we did the Golden Triangle before arriving in Goa.

Hope this helps with your quest.

Lynda
