First time tripper

I am going out to kololi beach in December and just had some curiosities about there.

Do you have to change your money up out there or can you use GBP?

How trusting are the excursion companies out there? Or is it best to use to hotel for them?

How safe is kololi as an area?

You will see that most of questions you have .

Already have been answered, within the forum please check if at previous posts they can help you .

Kololi is a safe place people will always come up to to offer you something thats life ,regarding plugs they use the same plug usuage as England sometimes a two pin plug so bring adapters .

You can change your money there they do not use English pounds also better rates are outside hotels.

Regarding tour firms they appear reliable or official tour guide may appear cheaper than hotel tours check gawane.com as a tour guide who works within the tourist industry and qualified who have taken people around i know an well known in the industry ,however they are many more shop around if you choose to.

If you feel abit harassed a firm no or i want a private conversations with who ever you may with many Times it work's .

All well covered under The Gambia OP's. Refer to 2017-18. This forum really does need a FAQ page.

Hi Shaun. We were in Kololi last Xmas. It was our first time & thoroughly enjoyed. If you want to go on any trips google Black & White tours. They specialise in small groups tours & were fantastic. We emailed Armstrong for a price list (not expensive) chose the tours we wanted to do, emailed Armstrong & he sorted it all out. We didn’t have to pay until we got there. He will pick you up from your hotel and take you to his office, run through trips you have booked & then you pay. I would definitely recommend the Senegal safari. It was amazing. The trip over on the ferry was a fantastic experience & once there we saw loads of animals & got to walk with the lions! Amazing! Take a load of pound coins with you & use them for tips. Everyone will gladly take them. Even the porters at airport. They change them for our notes when they have enough coins then go to currency exchange & change them into their notes. You will have a lovely time. We are going to Goa this Xmas but will def return to Gambia one day.

Just to butteress what has been said. I got back from a solo trip in Gambia and stayed in Kololi, and really enjoyed it.

I took gbp and exchanged at the bureau de change right by Maroun's.

I used local tour companies because Gambia is a country that relies on tourism and I feel like its important to support the local economy via local people.

Kololi felt safe, sometimes in evening in less touristy areas the street lighting isn't as great past 7/7.30 when the street ligthing is low.
