Baron Palms Questions

Hi everyone,

Now that we've finally secured a booking at the Baron Palms I had a few questions about the resort, if someone who has been there recently wouldn't mind answering them...

1. Does the hotel give you any sort of printed information when you arrive as to what is included and what isn't, and where you can eat/drink etc? I'm rubbish at sussing these things out for myself and always worried about being in the wrong place, or doing the wrong thing etc! Do they mind if you take stuff from Duty Free or the supermarkets back to the hotel or should we be very discrete about it and not leave it out in the room?

2. Is it possible to use the restaurants/pool etc next door at the Baron resort? If it is possible, do you need to go to their reception or something first to explain, or do you just wander in?! Many have mentioned the sea bass etc at the pool bar in the BP, does this cost extra or is it included in the all inclusive?

3. What is the best way to organise an airport transfer with the hotel, and how much is it? (I think I've read £7 ish somewhere but can't remember where). Also, how far in advance should I book it?

4. For birthdays do they automatically provide a cake, or is it something I should request before we go - again, what's the best way to request it?

5. Any recommended room numbers? We've booked a deluxe pool view room but would like something quiet ish but not too far from everything, and preferably not ground floor. Some have mentioned rooms with two bathrooms?!! Any locations or room numbers would be really helpful!! - Again, when should I make this request?

6. Lastly, is there a sunbed problem here? I've read mixed reports and so was wondering what time all the sunbeds are gone by!

I think that's all for now - so sorry there are so many questions. I've emailed similar questions to the hotel but not had a reply (tried twice). I've got a few more email addresses to try but I really don't want them to think I'm being pushy etc - I wondered if I'm getting in contact too early as we don't arrive until the end of June?

Any other advice on the Baron Palms would be really great,

Roll on June 26th!

Sarah

1. Re: Baron Palms Questions

Hi sarah

Right, lets start from the top...

They give you a sheet when you check in that says whats included and whats open when so you will be fine. I would keep any Duty Free hidden but i cant see that they would bother anyway if you had a bottle in there. We bought chocolate and things from the shop and left them around and they were fine about that.

Sea Bass is included as part of the AI deal. You can use the restaurants at the Baron Resort next door and you will get a small credit towards the meal but you have to pay for drinks. You need to book though and you can do this at the Baron Palms reception the day before. You can use their pool when you like and it's quite nice to pop there from the beach as its close by when you just need to cool down. I wouldn't sit around there as you don't get your all inclusive on drinks and things but it is nice for a dip.

Not sure about the transfer, try emailing them on moussa.elmahdy@baronpalms.com or info@baronpalms.com and they will be able to tell you.

We had it on our booking with Thomas Cook that it was my birthday while in resort and i'm not sure if the rep points this out to reception or if they picked up on it from the details they get but i got a lovely chocolate cake bought to me in the room. They rang first to make sure we were there and then bought the cake and some plates. It was huge! Either tell your rep to mention that its a birthday or just speak to reception when you get there.

Email them to request a room. We had room 305 which was close to reception and had a good view of the pool. We had a king and a single bed and 2 bathrooms - 1 had shower and all the usual and 1 just a loo, hairdryer and sink. It was a nice big room too.

We only had a problem with sunbeds once on the beach. If there are none by the shades, they will get you some anyway though and then just move under a shade when one becomes free. We never made it to the beach before 11am though, maybe before this there are more. When lunch starts though around 12, more free up then anyway. With the pool, people complain that there are not enough beds but we could always see some free from the balcony, maybe just not where people wanted to sit for some reason. It was busier there than the beach though. If you get on good terms with the staff in the pool area then they will reserve you beds. Just leave them a tip!

Dont forget about the bar next to the Egypian restuarant as there is always loads of space there and its nice to sit out on the boulevard and people watch of an evening!

If you do smoke, don't buy ciggies from any shops on the boulevard apart from the Baron Supermarket at the end nearest the hotel as they all sell fakes, despite what they may claim.

Make the most of the pool bar and egyptian restaurants as the food in them is lovely. You can book for them the day before you want to eat there.

If you can think of anything else you want to know, just ask!

Lesley you are an absolute angel thank you so much!

I really appreciate it :-)

I've got the review you wrote about your stay saved in my trips folder already and have found it so helpful, I'll add this post to it and print it for when we go. Knowing all these things makes me worry a little less about the holiday.

Thanks again

Argh, I just thought of something else.... sorry! :-S

I'm not a smoker but my boyfriend is - How much are the cigarettes in the supermarket?

And also where in the resort are you allowed to smoke?

Thanks in advance (not from me but from my boyfriend!!)

I see some of your points have been answered already so I'll try to avoid repetition.

The Baron Resort is not AI, so although you can use the facilities, you can't get food and drink there unless you pay.

I had a Significant Birthday when we were there. Our daughter had e-mailed the hotel and the manager met us personally to escort us to a specially decorated table at the poolside bar. After the main course, a cake appeared, accompanied by a line of singing waiters who encircled the table. I should think if you or your partner asks nicely, they'll do you somethhing similar. Don't even think about ordering a bottle of non-local wine or champagne, it costs over £40 a bottle! The local wine is pretty plonky but most people seem to drink it quite happily, and the beer is fine.

A tip that our rep gave us: the alcoholic cocktails are not in the AI but the "mocktails" (non-alcoholic ones) are. What you can do is order a mocktail and also a rum/brandy etc, and mix them to get the desired effect (assuming the effect you want is alcoholic!).

I can't remember our room number - we asked for a pool view and got one (first floor), but the downside of our room was that it was at the far end of corridor (furthest from reception) and thus very close to the evening entertainment, which takes place from about 8 or 9 to 11 pm in an outdoor amphitheatre. On the plus side, we had no noise at all from other guests coming and going. If you intend to be at the entertainment, or in the bar, etc, it would be quite a good location, but if you just want to retreat your room after your dinner, I'd ask for a room not too far from reception.

We didn't do much sunbedding, but there were always plenty of beds on the beach. There are also a few little roof-terraces with sunbeds, up the steps from the Kids' Centre, which were often deserted when we were there.

The snorkelling is wonderful, don't miss it! We were aslo impressed by the food, and the service, and the cleanliness - great hotel!

5. Re: Baron Palms Questions

Thanks ever so much Magpiestravel, that's really helpful. Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday! I shall definitely let them know about his birthday in my email requesting a room and transfers.

I think I'll request a room near the one that Lesley had as it was near reception and that will be quieter at night as you said, and convenient for reception.

I gathered we'd have to pay for use of the Baron resort, but it's nice to know we can go there. But by the sounds of it there'll be plenty to keep us happy at the Baron Palms.

I'm hoping to get lots of snorkeling in - it's one of the main reasons I chose this hotel. When I went in February it was lovely to be able to just hop off the end of the jetty and explore for a few hours. I might get a few dives in too, but my boyfriend is a non diver so will have to see whether he'll mind being left alone for a bit.

Thanks very much again,

Sarah

Hi all

Sorry to hijack Sarah's bandwagon but you all seem so helpful I thought I would ask you for some advice!

This is our first time in Sharm, also staying at Baron Palms after a very long story with the Tropicana Club Azure not being ready for our holiday in May! We are really looking forward to it but have heard that dodgy tummies can be a problem in Egypt. I have heard of Citicidal but does anyone know where to buy it and what brand etc is best? Also, have you any other tips that you could recommend to try and avoid problems?

Thanks

Kate

Hi Kate,

When I went all inclusive in February I had no problems at all (this was at the Sultan Gardens).

Have you read Nephthys' tips for 1st timers post? Here is a link:

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297555-i9225-k130…

It's really useful, and includes information about tummy troubles. Most people recommend a product called antinal which clears up problems quickly and is available at most pharmacies. Apparently there is a pharmacy on the 'Baron Boulevard' - the row of shops that leads from the Baron Palms to the beach. So you'll be able to get it there.

In Feb I had ice in my drinks, cleaned my teeth with the tap water and had salads and had no problems. But these are all things you could avoid if you're worried. Also, take some antibacterial hand gel and use it after handling the money as this transmits lots of the bacteria - it's disgusting.

Also, be careful when going from the hot sun into a cold air conditioned room - I've heard that can set it off. And generally drink lots of bottled water. I also drink other soft drinks as I find the sugar in the cola and sprite helps.

Unfortunately All Inclusive is the worst culprit for spreading bugs because of the buffet set up, but exercise caution and you'll be fine. Some say avoid the rice, but I ate loads in Feb with no problems, but some of the other food wasn't really piping hot, so where this was the case I didn't eat it.

Hope this helps!!

Sarah

p.s no need to scroll through all the posts on Neph's 1st timers thread, it's just where it's been 'bumped' back to the top of the forum in most cases - her original post is the most relevant.

Kate, theres a pharmacy on the Baron Boulevard where you can get Antinal to clear up bad bellys. It clears it up really quickly. I wouldn't say it was the ice or salad at the hotel that does it as i ate both from day 1 and didn't get a bad tummy until about day 5.

Sarah, ciggies were 10LE per packet (about £1) in the shops on the boulevard and you can smoke anywhere you like! Egypt is not like it is in the UK now. Just don't make the mistake of buying cigs from any other shop on the Boulevard than the Baron Supermarket. I was buying them 20 at a time when i was there from one of the little shops and they were selling my real Marlboro Lights. When i went to get about 600 to bring home they sold me fakes as i opened them and checked. Took them back and made them give me my money back and went to the Baron Supermarket! They told me all the tips to look out for with fake cigs - glue coming undone, the box on the front being bigger and other stuff and their cigs were 100% real. Otherwise, most charter airlines like Thomas Cook and Thomsons do 400 for £28 now which is only a few pound more than you will pay there.

:)

hi i got back from here last week and must say it was beautiful - you even had a chart to select different pillows!! for b'days you would need to request a cake etc,we stayed in superior pool rms 245 and 243 which were middle floor ( theres only 3 floors) and have perfect pool views and were quiet (although its not a loud hotel anyway) no sunbed prob as you are issued with a card to get towels and wen you return towels will get it back (also this happens on the beach aswell)we booked a private transfer with freedom direct for 5 people return cost £87 and no hassle)or you could contact hotel.tips on all inclusive - the alcohol free coctails are included so if you want alcohol just order your alcohol free cocktail and then also a shot of local spirits!! and you need to reserve by 12pm same day to eat in the pool bar rest and egyptian rest if eating there at night.most of it is free on all inclusive there - with regards to your own drink be discrete as this was my only hangup with hotel -they dont like anything being taken to rooms even their own drinks - we did though and nobody bothered us. have a nice time
