What to do on Christmas Eve and Christmas

Four of us are thinking of pretending it is not Christmas and heading to Atlantic City for the nights of the 24th and 25th. Any suggestions as to what to do if we do not want to gamble all day/night?

Pretend it's summer and lay by the indoor pools! Shopping is always a plus, although the stores will be closing early for Christmas.

Forsythe Wildlife Refuge should be open, be sure to bring your camera www.fws.gov/northeast/forsythe/visit.html & at $4 for a carload, it's a cheap trip. It's an 8 mile drive and you wont need to get out of the car unless you want some special photo ops Maybe the aquarium is open http://www.oceanlifecenter.com/hours.asp. Free parking at Gardner's Basin. The Imax in Trop www.tropicana.net/imaxtheater/index.htm Xmas tends to be a big movie day, you may need to buy tickets in advance & check out the Xmas decorations & falling snow [yes the snow is non~toxic] while in The Quarter

We were there last year for Christmas - it was ok but not sure we'd do it again. It will probably be slow - lots of offers in the mail to come down.

We ate at McCormicks which was lovely. Most restaurants have special menu. Mass at St Nicholas - but bundle up they have no heat. The Walk outlets are open I think till 6 on 12/24 and open early for after sales. Lots of stuff was closed. The pool was open. Watched movies in the room. Can venture out to local sites. Only Trop really had decorations - the quarter was nice to walk.

So it depends on your reasons for going - if you are looking for lowkey - no problem - forget Christmas no problem

Have fun

Unbelievably, the Pier Shops at Caesars are open on Christmas Day. The sales help told me that as long as the casino is open, so are the Pier Shops.

There is the Boardwalk Empire Walking Tour at Bally's. I heard on a radio commercial that there is a free audio download to listen to during the walking tour onilne for your personal music device. I cannot find the download to provide a link though. But here is a link about the tour from before it began atlanticcityweekly.com/arts-and-entertainmen…

FWIW, there's a button on bally's home page inviting you to download the tour:

ballysac.com/casinos/…property-home.shtml

here's a direct link to what bally's is calling its "reflections of atlantic city" audio tour:

ballysac.com/images/non_image_assets/BAC_192…

i, too, thought this was supposed to be a walking tour. but there are no reference points. it's just a lot of unrelated facts, divided into nine parts, along with phrases like "as the photo insert shows" and "this photo shows..." and "as you can see..."

as you can see WHERE?

is there a photo display somewhere within bally's that you're supposed to stand in front of while listening to this? (in which case, it's not really a WALKING tour.) if so, why not just have captions under the pictures? doh!

also, i could do without the faux "sopranos" accent of the narrator, but that's a whole different story.

UKS, I do not see a link to the Boardwalk Empire tour at Bally's homepage ballysac.com/casinos/…property-home.shtml I tried a search on the page and no matches. But I am not logged in & don't have my TR# so cannot login to test this.

rship1... it's there!

(doesn't matter if you're logged in or not.)

go to the link that you and i provided (the home page). at the present time, directly under the log-in box, there is a small button which reads "atlantic city audio tour click to download."

click it and a pop-up box will open from which you can download (or listen to) the tour.

the location and availability of the button may change as the bally's homepage evolves, but it's definitely there right now.

The audio tour clip goes with the pictures and posters hidden around the back of Bally’s lobby. There are texts & captions with the pictures. Maybe this is for people with smart phones who can’t read?

The so-called “walking tour” covers about 100 feet, but they did a great job hiding all of the display. Another hidden secret of AC?
