Trip report - December 2011

What a wonderful place to go!

We booked Sam (sam.angkordriver@gmail.com) as our tour guide. We also used Sam's services to pick us up and drop us off at the airport - very reasonable prices.

Sam was a great guide. He gave us unique experiences, such as eating at his in-laws restaurant (fish amok was so yummy) and taking us to a children's school in the floating village so we could hand out school supplies.

He was quick to reply, always on time and there was always a bottle of cold water and a cold towel in his air conditioned car. I really enjoyed getting to know him over the 2 days we spent with him. In addition to the great information on the temples, he shared a lot of information on Cambodia, its people and culture.

We stayed at the Raffles hotel, and took a tuk tuk into town each night. Dinner at the Khmer Kitchen (recommended by Sam) and il forno were both delicious and the prices are so cheap!

I hope to come back!

Thanks mp110 for sharing info about Cambodia and enjoyed my mate's service.

The best way to contribute the school supplies to those poor school and students is to buy from local upper market that you can get those stuffs very cheap ( a writing book 500 Riel to 1000 Riel and a pack of Biscuits about $ 2 ) and donate to right places.

We had experiences ( dried and rainy season ) to do that good deed to stilted schools @ Kompong Phluk and Kompong Kleang not Chong Kneas the scam and tourist trap that the you will be forced or pressured you to donate there then re-cycle ( sell back to shop nearby ).

At those 2 places we were not worried to have sunk because they are not floating ( on stilts ) and Sam organized us in advance to collect students then we handed out.

When we were there no other tourists came to those school besides our group and we learned that those students were very poor since their uniforms pretty old and they had no shoe to wear that Sam told us a year their parent could afford just a pair of shoe for them and if get lost or damaged they will have no shoe to wear.

Have seen and talked with some foreign students from NUS ( National University Of Singapore ) when they had hammers and nails to fix those schools and they shared experiences about their progressed and modernized education to those impoverished schools and students.

In term of our plan to visit the next will exactly be some student cloths and many pair of shoes for them.

Regards.

Nice review!

We just got back from a trip to SIEM REAP and the temples of Angkor Wat. We organized a tour with Mr. Sam and since he was not available he set us up with guide Mr Chet Hak and driver Mr Heng for our 2-day tour. Mr. Chet and Mr. Heng took excellent care of us! We saw both the sunset and sunrise, floating village, four temples and enjoyed an excellent evening show with dinner. What a great crew! Highly recommend Sam and his Team.

We are just got back from Siem Reap. We are also the used Sam Pho as our tour guide.

We are so impressed of his wittiness, knowledgeable in histories, informative always on time, reliable and i must say price wise very good deal too.

His English is good as well and so it is easy to ask him questions, hear some Cambodia history or just chat while visiting or resting inside temples.

Would not highly recommended enough of his brilliant services.

We had a wonderful with Sam. Sam was awesome, friendly and very informative tour guide. We were amazed at how excellent Sam’s English skill and his own knowledge's about temples, Cambodia cultures and politics, Khmer authentic meals recommendation and we had a great chat and discussion with him beside of temple tours.
