First, please excuse all previous typos and those that may come. I will easily blame them on blurry eyes and being overly enthused about all we are seeing of this beautiful country and its people.
Yesterday, we visited Tonle Sap lake, once again we had preareanged a car with a driver. It is roughly a 2 hour drive. Some people opt for a tuk tuk which would be great to experience the country up close and personal. We decided a car would work better for us.
The drive gives you an excellent opportunity to see the beautiful countryside and to witness how many Cambodians live. We made several stops at local places to take pictures, buy water and interact with the local people. Our driver spoke excellent English and was so helpful translating. At one roadside stop he introduced us to a special "sticky rice cake" that is made with coconut milk and placed in a bamboo stalk to cook. It was fascinating to watch the woman peel the stalk and hand it to us to eat while still warm.
At Tonle Sap Lake we had a covered boat all to ourselves. Our driver went with us which we found comforting as he could explain all we were seeing. We observed that many tourists did not have their drivers with them on th he boat. Ours offered to go which we thoroughly appreciated. He explained a lot about life in a stilted village.
The day was quite a cultural event for us. So thankful all the time spent planning our trip was guided by someone with experience and knowledge of the country.
