Arrived Siem Resp after 40 hours of transit to a beautiful and extremely hot destination. The 1.5 years of planning and wonderful guidance of a TA member paid off. I am forever grateful.
Applied for evisa 10 days before our flight. The process was easiy. Upon arrival, we just showed our paperwork and passport and breezed through.
Our hotel, the Sokkhak Boutique, arranged pickup by tuk tuk and we arrived about 15 minutes later. We preferred staying a bit out of town for the quiet and a feeling of being in the countryside.
Our first day was spent acclimating to the time difference and extreme heat. Our pre-arranged tuk tuk driver, Savuth (kind, caring and knowledgeable)took us out to see the countryside to have a better understanding of this wonderful country. Observing how many Cambodians live, how they work so hard just to put food on the table was eye opening. We observed men throwing nets into the water to bring up
tiny fish, maybe 3 inches long. Often the wives and children sat on the banks waiting. Observing water buffalo in the water and cows, often very underweight, along the roadways was confirmation that this is Asia.
The people we have met or just passed by in our tuk tuk appear to be kind and gentle. In those that we've had the opportunity to talk with in depth, it is clear they are proud of their culture.
We've had some difficulty acclimating to hest and time change so most dinning has been at the hotel. Amazing food. We did manage a speacial dinner at the Embassy. This has to be one of the most interesting and delectable places we've eaten in our travels.
