Anyone used Uber in Dubai?

Off to Dubai in a few months and just doing some pre-planning and was looking into the cost of taxis from the airport to our hotel (Ibn Battuta Gate). Came across Uber and even got £10 for signing up.

Anybody used them in Dubai before? After the credit, they are the same price as the normal taxis but I'll be able to get a luxury car like BMW or Lexus. Just wondering if other people have used them and what their experiences were like.

Thanks.

You have to download the app when you or in Dubai or you can use the local equivalent, Careeem, but neither can pick up from the airport and both are more expensive than the standard cream coloured normal Dubai taxis.

I wouldn't bother with Uber or Careem unless I was really stuck and couldn't find a cream cab

Cost of taxi from Airport to Battuta Gate is 20 pounds or more Uber is the same cost in Dubai as normal Taxis

but Uber drivers hardly know the City and some hardly speak English...

Uber in Dubai uses luxury cars and is about 30% more expensive than normal taxis. They don't cost the same as Dubai taxi. They do come in handy when you are stranded with no normal taxi in sight.

Uber just announced price reductions in Dubai today and the introduction of economy fares for its ride hailing service. (3 month trial).

It will have Dh5 as base fare and charge Dh1.37 per km and Dh0.4 per minute compared with its existing base fares ranging from Dh8 to Dh13 for various type of cars.

@25

All standard RTA taxis in Dubai are cream with different coloured roofs depending on the company and they all have the same fare structure. They are metered, government controlled, clean and safe.

Uber is usually more expensive, as is Careem, which is the local equivalent but maybe now they are going to have a price war - we'll see.

I would still opt for a standard cream coloured local taxi than anything else.

Hello !

I booked Uber and my credit card was charged but car never arrived to pick me up and ended up calling Dubai Taxi.

I suggest to use Dubai taxi - more safe

Airport cream coloured taxi will cost less even with the surcharge.
