9D8N in Vientiane and Prabang

My wife and are from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and we plan to visit Vientiane and Luang Prabang in February 2015, during the Chinese New Year week. Two other friends may join us.

We are seniors of 60+ and we plan to do our trip in a slow pace and relax manner, no rushing, no kayaking, no tubing, no elephant camp!

We plan to do our trip as follows:

Day 1: Fly from Kuala Lumpur to Vientiane, explore Vientiane

Day 2: Vientiane – visit Nam Ngum Lake

Day 3: Vientiane – visit Buddha Park

Day 4: Morning flight from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, explore LP

Day 5: Luang Prabang – Explore LP & relax

Day 6: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Cave

Day 7: Luang Prabang – Kuang Sii Falls

Day 8: Morning in LP, afternoon flight from LP to Vientiane,

Day 9: Fly from Vientiane back to KL

Is our plan do-able?

For Day 2, 3, 6 & 7, do we need to take day tours from agency?

For other days in Vt & LP, how to move around to explore the 2 places? What transport shall we use?

We understand that we can actually find transport and day tours on arrival at Vt & LP. But we are also aware that the Chinese New Year week will be a peak travel season. So do we need to book for all these in advance?

Advices and suggestions from anyone who has actually done something similar will be most welcome.

Any recommendation of good 3 stars hotels in Vt and LP? (from those who have actually stayed in the hotels before)

fly from KL to Vt, stay 3 nights in Vt, then fly from Vt to LP, stay in LP for 4 nights, fly back to Vt, stay one more night in Vt, then fly back to KL. A total of 9 days 8 night.

AWe are seniors of 60+ and we would like to travel in comfort, relax, and slow pace.ny comment and advice are welcome.

Sorry, the last 2 paragraphs should not be there. I was not in time to delect them.

Day 2 Nam Ngum is probably easier for you to take as a day tour. It is about 70km each way and if you took a local bus to the nearest town, Thalat, then a tuktuk, it would take up half your day.

All your other day trips are easy to do yourself - pay a tuktuk for Kuang Si, buy a boat ticket for Pak Ou, and either take the #14 bus or a taxi for the Buddha park ( about $30 return). The Buddha park can be done in a few hours return, you don't need a full day. It is 24km from Vientiane centre.

TQ bluecramp for your reply. Our KL - VTE flight will take less than 2 hours and arrive at VTE at 9:10am. on Day 1. So do we have enough time to do the Buddha Park by taxi and still have time to explore VTE on Day 1, without rushing?

You could easily walk around in the morning, have lunch, and leave for the Buddha park about 1, and be back by 5. The taxi journey is only about 30 minutes.
