Burning season - smoky air

Just an fyi for any one coming to Luang Prabang in the near future, the burning season has begun and the air is quite smoky. This morning the smoke is so thick that we can't even see across the river. It wasn't quite so thick the last couple of days, but today will be hard for people with breathing conditions...and anyone else with lungs. Bring a mask.

All depends, they started very early this year, not so sure why, lack of a hard winter here and high temperatures?

But it's not the burning here that's the problems much, its what are neighbors are doing.

A/C broke two days ago and was driving around with the windows open. Couldn't smell any burning just the diesel fumes from very old engines.

HI, I was wondering if the burning continued through the rest of February this year or if when this was posted it was just a couple of days affected? Looking to visit in the last week of Feb next year and whether it is likely to be the same again. Realise its a year by year case...

It seldom lasts for just a few days, more like off and on throughout March until around mid/late April or whenever some decent rains clear it up. Not saying don't go, but just don't expect clean clear skies end of Feb in northern Laos (or Thailand). It can affect the whole region.
