Please suggest what to add or change during our 10daystay.

We are planning to hire a opel zafira 7seater car from TOP Rent a car in sofia for our entire trip.

Day 1 drive to veliko tarnovo and stay

Day 2 stay in popovo

Day 3 ruse visit nd sightseeing

Day 4 stay in varna

Day 5 stay in sunny beach

Day 6 stay in nessebar

Day 7 stay in sozopol

Day 8 stay in plovdiv

Day 9 stay in rila monastery area

Day 10 sofia exploring

Checked the things to do sections in each places.

But we will be really thankful if anyone could suggest the best places because we are with the kids.

Is it good to bring strollers for kids ?

Is it safe to be out after sunset in the village areas ?

Is there any need to bring jackets for kids to use at the night time ?

Are there clinics or hospitals everywhere in the mentioned places ?

Looking forward a great and happy vacation ...please suggest and help ...

Hello, Rayhaan

Looks like an ambitious itinerary. Not impossible, just fast-paced. Personally, I'd suggest spending 2 days in Sofia and 2 in Plovdiv, maybe take out Sunny Beach, it's not very kid friendly in my opinion.

Spending hours in the car will be strenuous enough for your children, don't even mention hours upon hours of walking and exploring. Although I do understand your desire to maximize your trip and see as many locations as possible, I don't think the little ones will be able to handle it. Even if they do, they'll be extremely miserable about the whole ordeal.

My advice - take more time in Sofia and Plovdiv, enjoy your time at the beach and take it slow for the sake of the kids :)

It gets colder during the evenings and I see that you're coming from a warm country, so yes - please bring some jackets for yourself and the kids.

Villages as well as cities are very safe at all times. You'll find hospitals in most towns.

Bringing strollers is entirely up to you. The way I see it - they'll make it much easier for you to transport the little rascals during your day trips.

Hope you have a wonderful time and if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Paul

You cannot do this itinerary, simple as that. Bulgaria isnt a small country, much bigger than it looks on most maps, the same size as England. I suggest 2 days in Sofia, then 1 day in Plovdiv, from Plovdiv drive to Veliko Tarnovo and spend 1 night and the next half day there in the area. From Tarnovo drive to Varna and spend the rest of the days at the coastline and use to last day to return to Sofia. Spend 2 days in Varna or Golden sands, then the rest of the days in Nessebar, Sozopol, Sunny Beach or any other resort you prefer. From Sofia to Varna its around 5-6-7 hours depending on the way you drive and how many stops you take on the road, so lets say roughly that one day is needed to go back to Sofia from the coastline if you depart from Varna. Sofia - Burgas takes 3-4 hours.

Hi there,

As others here suggested this is quite ambitious and tiring trip. In my opinion Tarnovo is best – a small walkable town with nice restaurants and places to see and shop. It is only 3 hrs drive from Sofia (once you figure out how to get out of this busy city). I will definitely skip Popovo. Ruse is a nice city too, but for a 10 days trip may be too much. If you do want to go to Black Sea skip staying in Varna and spend more time on the beach. However, it is totally up to you. Do you want to spend time on the beach or just see the country? If you want to see the country then here are our top stops: Sofia, V. Turnovo, Plovdiv, Rila monastery. We love the mountain. Necebar and Sozopol are worth seeing too.

It is safe everywhere in Bulgaria but again if you want to actually see and absorb something, chose a few places and leave the rest for another time.

Enjoy your trip

Mind that you will not have space for even a minimum amount of luggage, not to mention room for baby strollers etc. The third row of seats in Opel Zafira is folded in the luggage compartment. The latter can otherwise be used if only the first two rows of seats are operational.

You don't need to bring strollers, but you can rent it when you arrive if Sofia. You also will need car seats for the kids. You can rent them from http://bebenaem.com/?lang=en

As Phil b has pointed out, the Zafira is not big enough for the trip, there would be no room at all for luggage, bar a couple of soft small bags, for 4 adults and 3 children......also make sure that you rent a vehicle with aircon, it can be pretty hot at the end of june and really hot travelling in a car with no a/c, although you are probably used to the temps if you live in RAK .

It's a nice trip that gives you a good overview of the different faces of Bulgaria. My recommendations are:

1) Skip Popovo and Ruse and spend an anditional day in Veliko Tarnovo and visit Arbanasi. Ruse is a nice city, it's best explored if you're coming from Romainia. Ruse is a 2 hour drive from Veliko Tarnovo, optionally you can do a day trip from Veliko Tarnovo and combine it with a visit of Arbanasi. Varna is better accessible from Veliko Tarnovo than from Ruse.

I have no clue what you want to see in Popovo and why you want to stay there.

2) Varna is a great city, very cosmopolitan and I would definitely include it in the trip. I would even stay there for 2 days and spend half a day in Balchik to see the botanical garden.

2) Nessebar and Sunny Beach are next to each other, so I would make one of them my base and visit the other as a day trip. You can visit Sozopol as a day trip or spend a night there. Nessebar and Sunny Beach will be full of tourists at the end of June, Sozopol will be more relaxed and enjoyable. After Nessebar Sozopol may seem underwhelming even though in my opion both cities are worth visiting but Nessebar is the more impressive of the two.

3) I would definitely spend two days in Plovdiv. The city is a treasure chest! So much to see.

4) I also believe Sofia is worth 2 days. I think the 2 days in Sofia will be a good opportunity to relax from the driving and give your trip a nice finishing. Rila monastery can be done as a day trip from Sofia.

If you bring strollers be aware that you won't be able to use them much in Veliko Tarnovo, Nessebar, Sozopol, Plovdiv and in the Rila monastery because of the cobbled streets in the old parts of the cities.

If you bring jackets bring LIGHT jackets because at the end of June the temperature will hardly ever fall below 20° even at night. You will only need jackets in the mountains and in case if rain.

I’d change itinerary and places to visit. Fewer quality places and less driving.

1. Night of arrival. Stay in Sofia, short walking tour in Centre, visit a park and maybe the cathedral, mosque or synagogue.

2. Drive to Plovdiv. 2 hours. Sightsee. Stay overnight.

3. Day 3 drive to Hisarya, 40 minutes. walk around the Roman centre. Then to Veliko Tarnovo to explore and overnight. About 90 minutes.

4. Day 4 explore VK morning and then late afternoon to Ruse.4 hour drive.

5. Day 5 Ruse all day. Stay 2nd night. There are some amazing sights and things to do.

6. Day 6. Drive to coast. 4 hours. I’d suggest staying at Pomorie, half way between Burgas and Nesebar. Nice beaches. More Bulgarian than Sunny Beach. Short drive to Nessebar and Burgas. Stay 2 nights.

‘7. Day 7 visit Nesebar. Half hour drive there and back. Relax. Walk around. Beach afternoon in Pomorie.stay 2nd night.

8. Day 8. Visit Burgas. Then motorway to Sofia. 4 hour drive, motorway all way. Overnight Sofia.

9. Day in Sofia. Vitosha Mountain. Other sight seeing. Stay overnight.

10. Travel home.

This gives you roman archeology, cities, Plovdiv has roman, 18th century, art nouveau. Hisarya has a roman walled town centre. It gives you the art nouveau in Ruse. Most Towns have big parks with cafes and areas to play and people watch. It gives you the sea. There’s a nice water park and open air outdoor cinema in Pomorie.

It also gives shorter drives and fewer miles.
