2 weeks next June: Slovenia & Croatia or Albania?

Hi there!

My husband and I are looking ahead to our trip next June. We will have 14 days on the ground. We would ideally like to see parts of Slovenia (Ljubljana, Lake Bled, hiking in the area), Croatia (Split, Brac, & Dubrovnik), & Albania (Riviera) but I realize that while this may be feasible, it will likely not be enjoyable.

We are pretty set on Slovenia but I'm looking for advice on our second destination. We are in our late 20s and enjoy hiking, kayaking, trying new foods, craft beer and wine, beautiful views and beaches. We prefer to stay in small guest houses. It looks like there are direct flights from Ljubljana to Tirana if we went with Albania. If we went with Croatia, we would likely take the sleeper train via Zagreb.

Our favorite places we've visited on past trips include Budapest, Krakow, & Paros (Greece).

Thanks in advance!

Slovenia is the least interesting country in the list.

I enjoyed Slovenia, and it's great for hiking, especially around Lake Bled, however a few days would be enough. After that it's probably best to decide on either Croatia or Albania, rather than trying to see both. If you opted for Croatia you could visit Plitvice. The area around Zadar is full of tiny guesthouses, and there is Paklenica National Park and Krka NP for hiking. Split is nice, but more built-up and Dubrovnik is very crowded.

Albania is beautiful, especially the coastal road, and Berat and Gjirokaster are wonderful places to visit for culture.

All three countries are beautiful, no doubt about that. However Albania is much, much cheaper. For example entrance fee in Plitvice lakes in Croatia is about 30 euros while entry fee in Butrint National Park in Albania is about 5 euros. There is no fee at all for the rest of National Parks in Albania.

Albania is less explored than Croatia.

I would recommend Albania, as it has the same if not more historical and natural sites compared to Croatia and is cheaper.

The nr of foreign tourists is supposed to go 7 million this year, but still less crowded than Croatia, which is good for you.

You have plenty of things to do
