Definitely stay in San Cristobal, you have many nearby beaches to vist, rest and watch the wild life, like the colonies of sea lions by the shore. There's great snorkeling at Tijeretas and La Lobería.

Welcome
"better" is relative.
and "better" for what?
i would say...generalizing...that both are "touristy". But my feeling at that time was that san cristabol was a bit more quieter or laid-back..... if you can call it that. Its just my feeling at that time.
i normally travel solo, but had a friend with me in the Galapagos. but to me, i really dont know what difference it makes other than if you are implying something as safety? and or partying? If you have something specific in mind, i would put it out there.
Im 62 y/o non white solo male traveler. Havent had much if any issues in my travels since 2012.
YMMV
good luck
They have different offerings of sites and activities but I expect you will enjoy yourself either way. As always, it depends on your prior priorities ane what you may have already seen. San Cristobal is ‘better’ for beaches and sea lions. Santa Cruz is better for tortoises. You would need to look at the activities available and see what you prefer, but either can easily happily occupy you for a day or two.
