I can't for the life of me decide whether to do a cruise or land-based trip with our 8 year old. Mainly we want to see wildlife and do some snorkeling/light hiking. But if we're doing a land-based trip, do we have to purchase a tour for the whole length of the trip? Say, if we're going to two main islands (Santa Cruz and Isabela) with one or two trips to smaller islands and some other side trips? I'm not sure if it's always required or if the trip would be disorganized without it. We'd like to keep our travel more sustainable, and I'm having a hard time finding tour organizers with that same goal.

There is a Top Question on the right (not visible on phones) that addresses that very dilemma.

No, you do not have to book land-based excursions ahead of time. But if there's one you are particularly keen on, you should book that.
