Long Walk, Short Walk

Question for those who have done the Celebrity Flora [or other Celebrity] excursions:

What's the difference between a long walk and a short walk [in distance]. In other words, how long is the longest walk?

Thanks.

We did the Flora Inner circle in early March. In general, long vs short seemed to be more a matter of easy vs rough/hard walk. For example: the long walk might include a 1 mile walk along the beach, walking in slightly loose sand and over some rocks, then another half mile over a hard packed dirt trail a little off the beach. The corresponding short walk might be just out and back on that hard pack trail off the beach, for a total of 1 mile. We did the long walks, and we did not consider those especially "long", but there were a couple of rockly or steep climbs. Even on the long walks, there were frequent stops for "sight-seeing" and explanations from the Naturalist guide. A couple of the long walks would have been difficult for anyone with any limited mobility. For example, the climb to the peak on Bartolome includes about 370 steps and a long inclined boardwalk with some loose boards: not real difficult, but a challenge for some people. Likewise, the "long walk" on San Christobal Island included a very rocky climb over rocks for which you had to be fairly sure-footed. The "long walks" typically took about 90 - 120 minutes.

For reference purposes.... we are both in our 70s but are very active, including usually walking 4 miles a day, biking, strenuous gym workouts, and windsurfing (when we can get to Bonaire). We were very comfortable and had no problems doing all of the long walks.

Thank you very much for the report and details about long / short walks. We'll be doing a cruise on the Flora later this year and we were curious about the excursions. While we aren't quite as active [we're also in our 70s] we can easily do 4 miles; heck we did many 6 mile days in NYC last week :). Not sure about windsurfing, however.

Again, thanks for the information. While Celebrity has lots of info about the ship they don't have much about what to expect in terms of activities.

Howard F, I have the cruise itinerary sheets (6 pages) with the activities for each day. If you want a copy, send me a private message via Trip Advisor with your normal email. I'll scan the sheets into a .PDF and email them to you.

If you walked 6 miles in NYC, you should be fine for any of the "long walks" that we encountered.
