Traveling via The Netherlands to Galapagos and back

Hi, we will be returning with KLM via Amsterdam to

Austria from Galapagos.

Did anybody do that recently and can you by chance let us know how it went while transiting in Amsterdam?

Thanks and best wishes

Doris

Since your question is more about AMS than Galapagos, I suggest you post on the Amsterdam or Air Travel forums.

Hi,

I will answer to this question as long as we flew with KLM to Quito 2 weeks ago for our trip to Galapagos.

We had just one hour layover in Amsterdam and even if our flight from Bucharest was 15 mins delayed we have no issues to arrive at the gate on time (around 9.30 am) to board the plane to Quito.

In the end the flight to Quito was delayed 30 mins so we waited to board more than we were expecting to.

What is important to highlight is that once you have arrived in Amsterdam from European Union countries you don’t need to go again through security check so from the moment when you disembark the aircraft to the moment when you arrive at the gate to board the flight to Quito it won’t take more than 20 mins.

Hi, thanks a lot for the info - can you still let me know , which COVID related documents you brought for transiiting in Amsterdam and for the Galapagos?

sorry to "misuse"this forum here, but we are flying out to the Galapagos on Oct. 9th via Amsterdam, Quito to Guayaquil and then on to the Galapagos.

I researched intensively already but thought, maybe someone from Europe did a similar trip recently and can share their experience :-) we would be very thankful!

Dear Shanti:

TO ENTER ECUADOR AND GALAPAGOS (REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT THE SAME):

ENTERING ECUADOR: You'll need either to show full vaccination (completed at least 14 days ago) OR a negative PCR test (no more than 72 hours old) to board the plane most likely.

ENTERING GALAPAGOS: 𝗧𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗴𝗼𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗢𝗧𝗛 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗖𝗥 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 (𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟳𝟮 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱). This double requirement for Galapagos is new, starting just on 1st September. You may find it hard to meet that negative PCR test within the 72 hour window and may have to have one done on mainland Ecuador before flying into Galapagos.

Warmest regards,

Heather Blenkiron

Dear Heather,

many thanks for the information - I actually saw your post earlier, and considered this already.

We are both fully vaccinated and we hope to make the 72 hours ( will do a PCR Test on Friday evening in Europe, Vienna (result after 3 hours), arrive in Guayaquil Sat 17:00, Travel to Galapagos Sun 9:30.

This is the plan.

kind regards and best wishes, Doris

Those who are transiting Amsterdam need to comply with the requirements of their final destination meaning Ecuador in your case so you need the vaccination card (2nd dose has to be done at least 14 days before arrival to Ecuador or the negative PCR test taken max 72 hrs before arrival). For Galapagos you need both for the moment but check constantly the requirements they have changed several times this year.

You need to register yourself online for Galapagos before paying the TCT. We did it online in Quito we wanted to speed up the process of receiving our TCT. After paying and receiving your TCT in Guayaquil you need to take your luggage to be scanned before going to check-in. So it is a longer process and even if it is a domestic flight I would advise arriving at the airport 2.5 hrs before the departure time.

And prepare yourself for the long 15 hrs flight. I will write a very detailed review tomorrow on the way back home.

Hi Miki, thank you very much for the detailed report.

It will be our second time in the Galapagos and given COVID, we are happy we can fly:-) and that it is „only“ 15 Hours:-) were you able to do the tct online? It seems the site is not always available.

Also now in your way back, did you do a oft test in Quito?

We are going via Guayaquil, so we have to find a place to do the pcr there.

Can’t wait for your detailed rest of the report, thank you very much, thos already helped a lot!

Best wishes doris

Hi Doris,

We did not have any issues in pre-registering online for TCT. Here is the link for registration in case you don’t have it: https://siiws.gobiernogalapagos.gob.ec/siicgg_web/

We are flying from Guayaquil but we don’t need any PCR test to get back to our country, the vaccine certificate is all that we need.

Today the KLM flight did not arrive to Quito, it has arrived directly to Guayaquil and the departure to Amsterdam was delayed 2hrs because the passengers going from Quito to Amsterdam were transfered to Guayaquil via a charter flight. We were supposed to have a long layover in Amsterdam which was reduced by 2.5 hrs now, most of the passengers connecting in Amsterdam have lost their flight connections unfortunately.

Dear Miki, I hope you had a safe trip home. Did you need a pcr for transiting in Amsterdam though?

You went to Bucharest, right?

Thanks again and hope you had the trip of a lifetime, Galapagos is just wonderful
