I was thinking the same cb, but from what I understand, Singapore is pretty expensive in comparison to Oz.

(eg. A coffee and a bottle of water AU$18)

Electronics maybe? Will be interested to see the replies from the "pros"

You might wanna buy electronics. It is cheaper than in Australia. To prevent going into shops that are disguise as tourist traps, you might wanna buy your products from reputed stores. In Singapore, if a shop have a label that says 'case trust', the shop is largely clean. I will say largely because you can never know who can go rogue.

Singapore is defintely not as expensive as Australia. A local coffee cost anything from 80 cents to a dollar. They are not gourmet coffee and are very strong that are stronger than expresso but they are favourite among locals.

Bottle water cost anything from 50 cents upwards too. You can buy cheap bottle water in supermarkets like Carrefour or even at Watsons or Guardian. If you buy them in tourist spots, then yes, you pay a premium.

In any case, Singapore tap water is drinkable. It contains fluoridet which prevents tooth decay.

I suggest you buy the Tiger Balm shoulder rub from any drugstore or any airport drugstore. When u apply it on your shoulders u will feel like u are having a massage. U cant buy it anywhere else but in Singapore.

[This is a food item, not a product]

"Bak-kwa" (barbequed marinated sliced pork); this is a food item that you do not get at hawker centres. It is sold in specialty chain stores; the most popular chains being Bee Chiang Hiang, and Fragrance:

The nearest western equivalent being beef jerky.

I don't know if it's the same Tiger Balm as in Singapore, or just a knock-off, but they do sell something called Tiger Balm here in the U.S. for muscle or joint pains. I believe the active ingredient is menthol, similar to BenGay or IcyHot, also sold in the U.S.
