Looking for the best place to purchase a Nikon Coolpix P900?

Looking to buy a Nikon Coolpix P900 has well as trying to get an idea of the cost?

Any suggestions as to where to buy the camera as well as information on the warranty?

Would it be better to buy in Singapore as apposed to Kuala lampur?

Liam

SGD $929 at the major Harvey Norman & Courts electronics chains:

Similar price at IPhoto (Lucky Plaza shop):

IPhoto is advertising at $699.79 on Shopee.sg though. I'm also seeing local online merchants offering $709, $729, $769 on Lazada.sg (1-month to 1-year warranty, no meetup, delivery only).

These are presumably the market rates for both online & physical retailers. Be careful when you shop at the likes of Lucky Plaza, Sim Lim Square & People's Park Complex.

Singapore is known for its affordable priced electronics. I would think it’s cheaper here in Singapore than Malaysia . You can get it from duty free at the airport.

Don’t bother buying this camera. I bought one at Best Buy, cost me over 600 and when I took it to a pink concert. The photos come out nice but the videos all had distortion on the audio. Could not use any of the videos. I took it back for a full refund. A month passed, I bought another P900 and went to another concert. Had the same problem with this new camera as well. There’s no fix for it, check other forums under Nikon P900 distortion on videos.. I was not the only one having this problem.

It might be the concert organisers lighting the event in a way to stop pirates trying to filming the event. Also rediculous to expect a little camera aimed at the casual user market to be able to record sound with any degree of fidelity.

I agree with post #5. It is not dedicated with a high end image sensor. There are other influencing factors coming into play like lighting, image stability, lens quality.

If you buy it in Singapore, the camera will be covered only by local warranty. If you have a problem with the camera after you go back home, the warranty is of no use to you. Usually, its best to buy electronic items in your home country unless the saving is big enough to justify the risk of buying the item without warranty.

If you do decide to buy the camera, buy at one of the authorized distributers only. It is pretty safe to buy at large stores like Courts, Harvey Norman, Mustafa Centre, Best Denki, Challenger Superstores or specialized photography shops like Cathay Photo, Alan Photo. Parisilk at Holland road is also a reliable store.

Places like Lucky Plaza, Peninsula Plaza, Chinatown & Sim Lim Square have a few shops who have been reported for cheating customers. Only a handful shops are rogue but unless you are sure about the credentials of the shop where you are buying the item, avoid shopping for the camera or any electronic items at these places. Especially, be very suspicious if you see any extraordinary discounts or offers that by common sense look too good to be true. This advice particularly applies for tourists as you may not be able to return to that shop or follow up on your complaint.
