Afternoon and one night in Singapore.

We have an afternoon and one night in Singapore between flights. Could I please get some recommendations on what to see in that short time frame and where to stay that isn’t too far from the international airport for an early morning flight. Hotel budget $200-$250 Australian dollars approx.

Hi,

The city is only about 20-25 minutes taxi ride to/from the airport and taxi fare is very affordable at $20-25, depending on traffic conditions at the time of your arrival. Add a 50% surcharge to the metered fare if you need to be at the airport before 6am.

Staying somewhere central, like City Hall area, will allow you easy access to attractions around Marina Bay. You can easily walk to the Singapore Flyer, Gardens By The Bay (GBB), Marina Bay Sands (MBS), Helix Bridge and enjoy the 2 evening lightshows at MBS and GBB. Plenty of places to have a taste of Singapore food that suit your budget from the humble hawker centres to posh restaurants.

Have a look at the

Carlton Hotel

Grand Pacific (older hotel so a bit jaded but still good)

Good luck!

Clarke Quay is also a good alternative if you want to skip the MBS/GBTB light shows. Ditto a bumboat ride or a rooftop bar to enjoy the Marina Bay skyline & Singapore River when they are lit up at night.

Chilli crabs or satay (Lau Pa Sat, Gluttons Bay, Satay by the Bay) for dinner.

Carlton Singapore is a good choice. You may be able to get Fairmont or Swissotel The Stamford (ongoing renovations) for that price during promotions.

Other options:

Rendezvous Hotel

30 Bencoolen

Grand Park Cityhall (ongoing renovations till estimated 31 Aug 2018. Pool not available currently)

Peninsula Excelsior (next to a construction site till Q2 of 2019)

Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay (includes breakfast)

Simone, aim to see the Supertree Grove lit up- even if you don't see the light show, it's beautiful once the crowds are gone. I also loved Cloud Forest when we were there- stunning gardens, and you don't have to love gardening to appreciate the beauty of the dome.

Thanks very much for your advice, will definitely do that. Do you know where we should stay for the night? We have a flight out at 7am so don’t want to make it too hard getting to the airport bright and early but would like to make the most of the afternoon nd evening we have there.

As Nancy has said, downtown where most of the attractions are is a mere 30mins max by taxi so I guess it boils down to whether you consider that an easy ride to and fro the airport. All the hotels recommended are in the city centre. The only landside hotel at the airport (Crowne Plaza) is more expensive but will be very convenient if you don't want to catch a taxi early in the morning.
