Air Philippines - hassle free?

Hi. I'm trying to book our flights from Manila to Caticlan for our Jan/08 trip to Boracay. Even though Cebu Pacific has these great rates posted on their website, booking it online is hopeless as apparently they don't accept Visa/Mastercard issued in North America (US/Canada). Calling them directly don't help either coz nobody answers the phone. I was on hold painfully listening to their ads/music for how long- who knows! (Great! My phone bill next month will be a shocker!) Talk about lack of customer service!

I stumbled upon Air Philippines website and they have reasonable rates. My question is: has anybody flown using Air Philippines? Are there any horrible stories worth knowing or is it a reliable, dependable airline company? In short - is it hassle-free to fly with them? I would appreciate any comment. Thank you! Bebe

Regarding your customer service problems with Cebu Pacific, that's pretty normal in the Philippines. Customers are generally considered to be, at best, an annoyance. In this case, the person not answering the phone would have been a low level employee who has no stake whatever in whether of not the phone gets answered.

I've flown Cebu Pacific several times and, other than the Philippine-normal lousy customer service, they seem to do a reasonable job. They fly in and out of Kalibo using Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft and have announced plans to service Caticlan using ATR2-500 turboprop aircraft. Regarding Air Philippines, I haven't flown with them heard anything about them one way or the other about them They have announced plans to fly Manila-Caticlan beginning 15 December using Bombardier Q300 (DeHaviland "Dash 8") turboprop aircraft.

Thanks, BoracayBill. I am familiar with general lack of customer service in the Phils, however, I read so many bad raps about Cebu Pacific regarding their "worst than poor" service (flight delays, online booking nightmares, etc.) on various chat forums I happen to visit by chance. It seems like, bottom line, you get what you pay for. Our time in the Phils., esp. in Boracay, is very short and a delayed or unreliable flight is something we can't afford to happen. I appreciate your comment! Thanks.

You're flying in the middle of high-high season, and if you want a hassle free time, book with asian Spirit (www.asianspirit.com) or Seair (www.flyseair.com) to Caticlan.

Air Philippines is supposed to start their three daily flights for now Manila - Caticlan by November! The rate is (for now) slightly cheaper than Asian Spirit and Seair. There are no horrible stories about air Philippines.

Hello Tebebe10

I have flown Cebu pacific about 100 times. I find their on board games embarrasing but otherwise have been very happy. They have the newest fleet of planes for any airline in the Philippines. They practically never depart on time but nearly always manage to arrive on time.

I flew Air Philippines once, because of the cheap airfare. The maintenance inside the plane was so poor that I wondered what the maintenance on the outside must be like and decided never to fly with them again.

By the way, I presume we are all talking about the same airline and not confusing Air Philippines with Philippine airlines

Thanks for all the comments. Big Jim, yes, I was talking about Air Phils. I tried to book our flights online with Air Phils. but discovered soon enough that "booking online" with them doesn't mean "e-ticket" (as what is the norm here in North America). My booking thru their website had to be confirmed via email and then once confirmed, i have to make an arrangement with a relative/friend to buy the tickets in their Manila ticketing office. What kind of an online booking system is that esp. in a modern world of technology and where Phils. is littered with computer geniuses whom some of there are maybe smarter than Bill Gates? I was really disappointed. I will now turn to PAL, SeaAir or Asian Spirit.
