Mt Fuji Voluntary Fee- where do you donate?

Hi,

I have read that climbers are asked to pay a 1000 yen voluntary fee to climb Mt Fuji - completely fine with me as £10 is nothing for effectively what is a day out - can any one tell me where I pay the donation?

Just concerned I will miss it because unfortunately I cannot read Japanese. Does anyone know if its a stand on 5th station, or a ticket hut or just a donation box where you drop the money.

Thanks

L

It's at the 5th station - they sit at a table or have roamers. On the Fujinomiya side you will get a badge and on the Yamanashi side you will get a little wooden tag.

They are on duty at 5th stations of both Fujinomiya and FujiYoshida routes from 7:00am. Not sure about the Gotemba or Subashiri routes this year...

Hi,

Ok great will look out for the tables - I guess I could always donate on the way back down if there is no one on the way up. Do you know if they have badges that or a sash or something that identifies them?

Kind regards

They will also give you the official, glossy color A4 sized map/mountain information 'booklet' - worthwhile.

There's always seems at least one of the volunteers that can speak English.

I reckon you'd have to be a really stingy and nasty gajin not to donate a measly ¥1000 yen to these volunteer workers.
