Hi, I'm going to Bali next March, staying in the Bali Hyatt in Sanur. Can anyone give me tips on places to visit, local travel, vegetarian food etc. Also anything to avoid may also be usual. Thank you in advance.. x

A day trip from Sanur to Ubud is not far and Ubud is a great place to stay or visit for the day if that is all the time you have. Mandurah Spa in Sanur is very nice for beauty treatments or massage. I am sure you can find vegetarian food at most restaurants.

if you look at the right hand side of the bali forum page there is a list of top questions about bali. click on these links to get some ideas about what to see and do and get some other good advice. there is also a section with reviews for restaurants in sanur. just type 'restaurants in sanur' in the search bar. most restaurants have vegetarian dishes. you can always ask to have the meat replaced by tofu etc in your meals. the bali hyatt is an excellent choice. i have stayed there numerous times.

You're only a 30 min taxi ride away from Kuta if you want to hit the shops there. It's also worth a visit around 6pm to watch the sunset, absolutely stunning.

As mentioned, you're about a 45 min taxi ride away from Ubud, although I'd recommend spending a couple of days there to soak in the atmosphere.

Avoid the bottled Guinness, horrible stuff.

Plenty of Vegetarian options in Sanur. Randy's has a list of vegetarian meals (although we hardly got by the veggie burgers which were great). Also at Swastika Lemon, Piccadilly and Wicked Parrot we got lovely Veggie options. There is absolutely loads, Indian, Indonesian and western. You can get Veggie Nasi Goreng Mei Goreng Gado Gado etc etc.

We got a taxi a couple of days to Kuta (around 80K each way) and also hired a driver (you can see my report) and did a couple of tours. Sanur is a good base.

I remember the Hyatt in Sanur, had a little look around and looked great with a very nice beach, well maintined and clean.

If I remember rightly there is a nice looking Chinese kind of across the road, perhaps a little expensive for Bali, but none the less looked nice. There are plenty of restaurants around the area pending on price. I ate in Mezzanine restaurant (Asian cusine with very fresh fish in a tank!) about 15 minute walk from Hyatt, which had an extensive menu and a modern and new look, apologies but I'm not sure of the veggie options

Most restaurants have a vegetarian section in their menus and as already stated, most Indonesian dishes can be made vegetarian.

D Corner on Jl Poso has a very large vegetarian menu.

Keep an eye out, all the members are currently helping me do up an itinerary with heaps of ideas of things to do in each area. We have finished the Ubud section and are currently working on the Bedugal area. We should have them all finished by March.
