Registered a new SIM today with passport identification.
Went to store MCell, a little red coloured shop, immediately opposite Hardy’s Supermarket.
Purchased XL SIM 4.5gb data and 15 mins calls max: 1 month. Cost 150,000k.
This was the minimum purchase, which suited me as I only mostly need it to catch Grab Taxis when away from the Villa’s free wi-fi.
Make sure the store registers you as they also have pre-registered SIMs for those customers either without ID or in a hurry. However, those SIMs may expire shortly.
The lady accepted a copy of my passport as identification for the registration.
Make sure the photocopy is clear as they need to take a photo of it and send to the Telco. The whole process took about 10 to 15 minutes.
Another 5 minutes for the Telco to accept.
She said I would be connected in under one hour.
Five minutes later I received a text saying I was connected.
Also, tell them to download the MyXL app in English.
The SIM will expire in 3 months if not topped up, which can be done cheaply via the app or in store.
All up the process took half an hour.
I spent part of it at Hardy’s across the road rather than waiting.Edited: 04 August 2018, 18:49
