Sarong or will floor length dress do

Since I'm on a roll with asking questions so it seems :-) I might aswell ask this one aswell.

I read you need to cover knees and shoulders when visiting temples.

Same as in many places around the world. Now when we go to Thailand I always use to wear floor length dresses and make sure my shoulders were covered.

Will this be okay to do in Bali or does it really have to be a sarong?

At Uluwatu , they loaned us sarongs even though my wife had on a long dress. I can’t speak for the other temples since the only other one I have been to is Tanah Lot and it seemed as if there was no “ dress code” there.

I think normally you can just wear a sash if you are wearing a long dress, but at Uluwatu the sarongs are cheap anyway,

Yes, a long dress is fine, but a sash must be added.

What is the idea of the sash if the legs are already covered?

Personally i find long dresses too hot, so I just carry a sarong around if I'm visiting temples. They don't take up much room.

Tanah lot is different since you don't actually get to go inside the temple, same for ulun danu temple, so no sarong needed

Every temple in bali has different rule. At tanah lot temple, u dont need to wear sarong, at uluwatu temple, they provide sarong for visitor, at tampak siring, u can rent or bring your own sarong. You better prepare one sarong because many temples not provide and u must buy or rent sarong with high cost..

Not sure who you are travelling with but, unlike temples elsewhere in Asia, men are also required to wear a sarong even if they are wearing long trousers.
