Sarong for temples?

I have been reading up many reviews about various temples and am not very clear on the attire.

Many people are saying that women have to have long pants and covered shoulders, and men need to have long pants. No problem with that, but does it mean that we do not need to wear sarong if we have long sleeves and long pants?

Thank you for enlightening me.

Yes, you will need a sarong for both men and woman. If you are planning on visiting a few temples then buy one in Bali so you don't have to pay extra, they cost from 50,000 rupiah, about $4 USD

Long sleeves are not required.

I generally wear a long flowing loose dress(sleeveless) in Bali and at most temples, I get waved through since my legs between knee and ankle are covered.

At the bigger temples, they hand out sarongs and sashes and if given one I will wear it, and as it's over my dress I don't mind. However, if I was wearing shorts, I'd be bringing my own. The ones handed out at the temples could all do with a good wash.

Who goes to Bali and doesn't buy at least one sarong anyway? Just wear it with a t shirt on temple visiting days.

BTW, I've never been charged extra for a sarong at any temple in Bali.

You also need a sash, this is very important and will be supplied with a sarong.

By the way, if you are going to an actual temple ceremony and going inside to pray it's a different matter. You can "get away" with just a casual sarong and sash, but the actual pakaian adat traditional clothing for women is more complicated.

Any Balinese (man or woman) can help you with this.. Stagen - the long line bra under your kebaya. Sash and sarong. There are specific ways these should be put on, and again, anyone can help you get dressed.

For men it's different..
