Travel from India to Tibet

I am trying to get from India (New Delhi) to Lhasa Tibet and am finding it almost impossible without a 10 hour travel to Guangzhou, China (entry point into China).

We also need to go from Tibet to Chengdu - again going thru Guangzhou = hours and hours of travel.

Does anyone have any ideas?

There are no open border points between India and China since the war in -62. You have the overland option via Kathmandu , and ( uncertain about flights in the winter ) flying Kathmandu-Chengdu . NB : if you enter China via Tibet ( which will be closed in March at least , same as the preceding three years ) you´ll get a non-extendable max four weeks stay in China, starting when you leave Nepal.

I've just made a quick enquiry on elong.net and it threw up about 10 non-stop flights a day between Lhasa and Chengdu, and that's for winter (low season).
