Best way to travel to Lhasa to prevent altitude sickness

My husband and I are considering to take the Himalayan express from Beijing into Lhasa, is this a better option than flying from Chengdu to Lhasa. we have been reading about symptoms lasting a few days. Can anyone comment?

What would you recommend to do to take it easy, we are not planning on trekking just visiting

Thank you

Yes , the train is a less strenous option than flying in directly to Lhasa. The best option is to spend a night or two in Xining , and then take train in. You can fly in to Xining - in practical terms there is no acclimatization taking place below 2000 meters.

Thank you for the article.

We were actually planning to have a full check up indeed.

It is a bit daunting to go to Tibet knowing you might have AMS, as anyone could have it.

We will see what we decide to do.
