Stopover in Hong Kong

Hello, My partner and I are looking at flights from Brisbane to Paris via Hong Kong and Helsinki (33 hrs in total) - Qantas /Finnair codeshare. The layover In Hong Kong is scheduled for 7 hours 55 mins. We would like to book a hotel to rest between the flights in HK and were wondering how long (how many hours) we have before we must be back to the terminal for the onward flight to Helsinki? Must we collect our checked in luggage at HK airport? Or would it go straight through to Paris? If we leave the confines of the airport for our layover (for example to go to the hotel) , must we take the luggage we checked in with us and then re-check it, or can we leave it with the airline? Any advice would be realty appreciated before we finally book. Thank you.

8 hrs is really too short a time to leave the airport and go to a hotel. You'll have to go through immigration. So effectively you'll have about 5 hrs. It also depends on which 8 hrs of the day. Maybe best to find a pay in airport lounge and rest up at the airport.

If you flight is booked on a single ticket I think your bags will be checked through, but check with your airline for certain.

Hi, if not mistaken FinnAir and Qantas also have interline agreement,(so double check),then your checked luggage should be tagged to Paris.

Most convenient hotel will be Regal Airport, which is directly connected to the hotel, then you can also arrange for hotel to give you a wake up call. With it directly connected, and if your boarding pass are already issued at Brisbane--you just need to be a the boarding gate 30minutes before STD of flight.

Have a pleasant flight

Thanks for that - so we can leave the airport without our luggage? That's good to know. We only expect a few hours sleep out of the total layover time but somewhere quiet where we can rest and shower and have something to eat would be good. Thanks again.

I have been reading about the pay-in lounges at HK airport. They seem quite reasonable and flexible and a good alternative to leaving the airport for a hotel. Cheers
