Avoid at any cost. Don’t try to drive, especially in Cairo. Anyway, you won’t be able to do it!
Driving in Egypt is not like driving anywhere else. People have their own unwritten traffic rules, which have nothing to do with anything you know. Roads are not well signified. Lanes are not well identified. The whole thing is a big chaos that you would rather avoid. Given the parking problem, driving would never be quicker as you imagine. In some places in the city center, you can spend 90 minutes looking for a parking spot and you will find one only if you are lucky. Do what the locals do, use cabs (they are available and significantly cheap) or hire a driver.
