Jordan Visa for Indians

There seem to be a confusion about the Jordan on arrival visa for Indian passport holders. This post is targeted to clarify that.

I recently flew through Amman's QA Intl Airport. After landing, I approached the visa counter (not the transit counter), and got an on-arrival visa stamp in exchange of 20 JDs, without any problem. They did not ask anything, and gave the visa right away. Note that, however, some people like flight representatives on the airport had told me otherwise. I suggest to ignore them and directly approach the visa counters.

If you're traveling through Royal Jordanian and are only making a transit stop, make sure you also collect the free hotel ticket from the ground staff.

with the above mentioned, which is interesting;

you were transiting through QAI , you were not visiting or trying to work, how long was your visa valid for...??

Thank you Vikrant.I am visiting Jordan for vacation later this month and was a bit confused about the VOA facility for Indian passport holders.Your post helped clear my doubts.I would like to add here that Jordanian Consulate in New Delhi too had confirmed the same.

Hi, I have an Indian passport and faced a bit of challenge wrt a tourist Visa on Arrival in Amman last week. I was told that I needed to have USD 1000 in cash to be eligible for Visa on Arrival and specifically only USD; no traveller's checks or credit cards or even the equivalent Jordanian currency were acceptable !! Staff speak very little English and explaining that I didn't want to carry so much hard cash for safety reasons and that I had traveller's checks were futile. After much gesturing and a loooong frustrating conversation, I was initially allowed only a one week visa (though my return tickets were after 10 days); and after spending another half hour explaining that the Jordanian Consulate in India had said that a 2 weeks Visa on Arrival was allowed, I was finally given a 2 week visa (I suspect it was more because they were tired/bored and wanted to move on than the fact that the consulate had confirmed 2 weeks).

My husband (also an Indian passport holder ) who arrived later in day on a different flight was initially given a 1 week visa even though he had USD1000 in cash and return tickets were after 10 days.

I would recommend that you get a visa in advance, if you have the time to do it. It avoids the hassle of being made to wait on arrival and the suspense of whether or not visa will be granted on arrival.

Hi

I just returned from Jordan and had no problem getting 7 days tourist visa on arrival.I was not told to show any cash,hotel booking and traveled by Air Arabia.Just had to show my return ticket and pay the visa fee in Jordanian Dinar which can be exchanged inside the immigration and passport control area.I had visited for tourism purpose as a solo traveler and had onward ticket to Iran not even India.

We got one week visas on arrival, but I didn't enjoy the experience. The immigration officer had to call in his superior who looked through our passports carefully and then said that we could stay for a week. It took about 30 minutes for us to be cleared. The Jordanians don't really seem to be comfortable giving us visas on arrival, so why bother ? I suggest getting visas in advance if possible, else be prepared for what we experienced.

I second this. Visited Sep end and though got the visa for 1 week but had to do quite a bit of explaination and show USD 1000 cash per person. The fact the the officers are not very conversant with engligh also does not help. In fact they looked at the Malaysia visa which I had in my passport and asked me why it is expired. Had to explaing a number of times before they understood and gave the visa. So eventually I got the visa but had some tense times as we were directed to another room for the explaination. So if possible get the visa in advance.

I also heard that based on the experiences even for some ppl the indian immmigration authories themselves checked if rhe tourists were carrying enough cash before they allowed then to exit India so they don't face a problem in Jordan.
