Sri Lanka compared to Goa

Just wondering what the level of hassle, scams etc is like compared to Goa. In Goa I got pretty fed up with females constantly being stared at, men trying to grope females in the water, waiting on the beach for them to come out of the water, being hassled by local hawkers trying to sell things on the beach every two minutes, taxis, buses and tuk tuks trying to rip us off, shopkeepers short changing us, shops trying to overcharge us, blatant lying to us etc etc. Once or twice might be ok, but a constant stream of this gets annoying.

How does Sri Lanka compare to Goa in this respect?

Sri Lanka is nothing like Goa, You might get a little hassle but nothing like Goa. The food is quite different and drinks are more expensive than Goa. Transport is quite good. We use the A/C busses to get around.

Hummmmmm, your opinion of Goa, contradicts ours.

Guess it depends on which part of Goa you're referring to.

Thanks for the reply, we will be using the AC busses as well, we don't mind if things are more expensive as long as we're not being lied to or ripped off.

Obviously some parts of Goa were better than others, Calungute was the worst, but we faced the same scams and hassle elsewhere. On average being lied to, short changed or attempted scams 5-10 times a day compared to about once a week in Vietnam for instance.

Jim, If you decide to go to a liquor shop for any type of alcohol check the price on the bottle. There is a government price on it and you should not pay any more than that. We went for some wine and Vodka to take to a locals house and they tried it on in the shop. Most though are OK .

A bottle of local vodka is 1990ish. The smirnoff is about Rs.3750

So it would make more sense to get a bottle or two at the airport.

After doing some research it doesn't look as bad as Goa so we might give it a shot

Jim , You will enjoy. First time we went for 10 nights and found that too short so then we did 14 and also found that short so we did 18 nights and found that just right for us anyhow. We nearly bought a house but that's another story. The O/H likes shorter flights these days.
