Yala or Udawalawe

Hi we are leaving tonight for a week in Sri Lanka. Would spend 3 nights in Tangalle and another 3 in Galle. Want to do a day trip safari while at Tangalle. What would you recommend?

Thanks

Hi there,

Depends on your taste. Both are 1.30 hours from Tangalle roughly and safaris 6-9 AM or 3-6 PM. And avoud weekend or public holidays esp. in Yala.

* UW: far better elephant herds, most photogenic park of Island with a huge lake and a backdrop of a massive mountain range

* Yala: more varied (large) wildlife, with some chances for sloth bears and leopards too but as far as elephants go mainly loners or small families. Even at weekdays sometimes overloaded with jeeps.

All the best,

Thanks Eric. Yala sounds more interesting to me. Hope it will not be crowded. Definitely won't go on weekend. Thank you!
