Sri Lanka in 14 days?

I'm going to Sri Lanka in the middle of March this year. I'm traveling with my boyfriend, and we got 14 days in total, starting in Colombo or Negombo (Not decided yet).

We are going: Colombo/Negombo => Kandy (with a stop in Pinnawala) => Adams Peak => Yala National Park => South coast => Colombo/Negombo => back home.

We're thinking about taking bus or a driver to Kandy with a stop in Pinnawala. Would that be possible to do in one day?

From Kandy we'll take the train to Hatton, get of for Adams Peak, but we don't know how to make the best journey to Yala National Park and from there to the south.

We would like to do as much as possible of the scenic railway as possible - but enough to have time for five days at the south coast.

Any advises would be appreciated - also if we're are missing out on something special.

Best regards

Hi Karina

You have completely missed out the Cultural Triangle which is amazing Sigiriya, Pollonuwara, Dambulla if you like to see some fantastic Cultural sites not to far from Kandy.

With a 14 day holiday you should be able to do this as well and still have 5 days at the coast

It's all a choice between public transport and private car-driver upto the coast. See top questions on both subjects to compare. The railway is very scenic between Nanu Oya and Ella-Badulla and also a bit just west of Kandy, for the rest don't bother about it if nice views are important. Route AP to South (Yala) should be through Hatton (again)-Nanu Oya/Eliya-Ella to have best landscape.

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]
