Train from Hatton to Colombo, Tea Trails?

We are looking to travel next January, from Hatton to Colombo by train (Observation carriage) is there a train that leaves in the morning?, how long does it take? What is the weather like at Tea Trails? Is 4 nights too long?

Hi there,

See

http://www.seat61.com/SriLanka.htm

And then the replies are:

* Is there a train that leaves in the morning?

Yep, 9:35 from Nanu Oya so must be something like 10:30-11:00 from Hatton.

* How long does it take?

See timetable, till 15:30.

* What is the weather like at Tea Trails?

Bogawantalawa is almost as mixed as Eliya. On sunny days upto 20' and on foggy days (even without rain) upto 8' only.

* Is 4 nights too long?

Depends on what you want to see. If it includes trekking near Ella/Haputale and Horton Plains, then it's a good duration.

Have fun,

Thank you for that Erik, just on more question! as we only have 1 night in Colombo and will hopefully be arriving on the train at 15.30 (how on time are the trains?) we were thinking of staying at the Galle Face hotel, or would we be better staying in Negombo as out flight out is at 09.30? (sorry that's 2 questions!)

Okay, two for the price of one!

1) Trains on these distances often have 1-2 hour delay...

2) Galle Face hotel beats almost all hotels in Negombo in grandeur/style, so truly recommended. And 9:30 flying means 7:30 at airport means 6 AM leaving from GFH - they can for sure arrange breakfast on your room before that time.

Have fun,
