Mask wearing for toddlers

Hello all,
My family and I are travelling to Sri Lanka in March from the UK. We, as parents, have no objection at all to wearing masks in public places.
However, we are traveling with our 2 year old son. In the UK, there is no expectation that a child that young would wear a mask, and I seriously worry that he'd be able to keep it on his face for any significant period of time, because he's a toddler.
Is it the expectation in SL that kids of that age wear masks? I appreciate comments that tourists aren't strictly policed on this front, but we would want to be respectful of local guidance and culture.
Any insight would be very valuable. Thanks in advance.
