Turning up

Travelling to Nha Trang very soon and not many options on hostel world and agoda for us. Is there much choice in the centre of turning up and finding a room? Has anyone done this before?

Note: group of 3 of us travelling looking for hostel or cheap guest house

Thanks

No problems at all, except for this and possibly next week.

You will find something but are going to pay more than normal, likely double.

If by the centre you mean the backpack area you will find it very busy as most holiday travelers from Saigon and Hanoi will go to Nha Trang. Prices often are up to 4 times regular rates. Because Tet did not fall before the weekend you might be alright. I suggest booking in advance if you can just to be sure. You can probably find a less expensive hotel on the beach area north of the river if prices too high in main tourist area, but they are not hostels and there are few bars to party at.

On the Agoda booking site, I see one hotel available from 9.2.16 to 13.2.16, the Seaside Hotel, 2 star, for $87/night (obviously, money-grabbing Tet pricing). That's not to say other and cheaper places aren't available but this is a bad week. BTW, booking.com is also showing the same hotel available and nothing else. Good luck and Happy travels!

While Nha Trang might be smaller than HCMC, last year due to a sudden change in arrangements, we literally just turned up at a small hotel in Go Vap on the 2nd day of Tet. Cost was a very reasonable $6.50 a night (Dong only taken). You'll find a place at some price point.

Next question is how will you get from HCMC to Nha Trang.

Tet also means all transport is booked out too.

Vietnam Airlines have plenty of empty seats through the end of the week on the SGN - CXR route. Regards,

We got a easy day bus, booked 2 days before and relitively cheap, found a place for 700k dong per night (between 3 it's not bad) walked out of other places which wanted 500k as they were a dump.

Thanks for your help
