Man arrested for beating, robbing foreigner

For those who think it's a waste of time reporting robberies to the police in Vietnam, here's a heartening tale...

Having said that, the foreigners involved were extremely naive in accepting a breakfast invitation from a group of young lads on motorbikes at 3am...

What s refreshing change that someone actually went through the process of reporting crime to the authorities. Most people beleive that reporting will do no good And even better that they were caught. There is hope for the police yet....

3 am in any city with strangers is trouble..... what where they thinking?

if that happened here especially a violent crime the police would be straight onto it and being an Island will find them really fast.

i agree that its nice to see people following through, i sometimes hear about incidents and even though i urge them to report it most people either dont have the time as their leaving or they think it will go nowhere anyways!

have even known people with insurance not to bother reporting ??

As others have said they kind of walked into it themselves agreeing to go with people they didn't know at theat time in the morning but great to hear the police got an arrest.

Hey Tim, that;s great, now all we need is for someone to police the sanitation standards and the taxis and we will see the place move into the new world as far as tourists are concerned. New computer by the way, wife drowned the other with a full glass of Cab Sav. Great to see your still going strong.......Noddy

It is not necessarily a waste of time. A pickpocket incident's police report (in Vietnamese, no translation necessary) was enough for me to get the lost effects replaced by the insurance company. Even if said report had to be hand crafted (no computer at the police station, not even a fake IBM).
