30$ for 3* hotel in Dist 1 in HCMC? I think it's very difficult for nice hotel. You must pay 35$ - 40$ per night for 3* hotel standard.

I think, you can choose 2*+ hotel as Le Le hotel (171 Pham Ngu Lao), the cost is 30$ nett/night, included breakfast. Good location.

Yeah,

We have stayed in the Le le Hotel 3 times and it has been great. Make sure you get a front room or rear room as the middle room is pretty small, but still comfy.

The hotel is in a great spot also, as the lane next door @ 175 PNL has plenty of cafes and bars.

HCMC is more expensive than the rest of Vietnam.

You can go on the usual cheap places in the longest alley (Bich/Giang/Blue) but for 25$ you get a small room, no lift, noise or have to stay in a windowless room and eggs with breads every morning. The other dozens places around usually never change the bed and no breakfast (that is a plus in D1, big choice outside at every hours).

Finding a nice hotel in D1 below 50$ it's not easy.

Le Le and Duc Vuong seems the best choice around 30/35$, not tested personally but some friends said were ok.

Check out this hotel comparison website, the cheapest options are on the first page, then check out the reviews here in the hotel section but discard the 1st time or posters who only have posted a few times as there are a lot of fake reviews especially for the lower budget hotels.
