Phnom Penh-Hanoi

I will be in Cambodia next June, and I would like to visit Vietnam before coming back. I heard that it is possible to join Ho Chi Minh City from Phnom Penh by bus (as the two cities are not so far from each other), so I wanted to know if you had some informations about the prices and where to buy tickets? Also, what happens when the bus crosses the border (as visas are required in Vietnam)?

Thanks a lot!

Hello Naomi Z

Just go to this website and you will be able to see most, but not quite all, of the bus company schedules and prices for travel between Phnom Penh and Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City.

As for VN visa you need to be one of the following:

A) A Visa exempt national passport holder/traveler.

B) Have already obtained a VN Visa and have it in your passport.

C) Have obtained and have in your possession an online Visa Authority Letter.

D) If of Vietnamese descent living outside of Vietnam - the holder of the special five year VN passport.

Without meeting one of the above requirements you will not be allowed to board any bus or van in Phnom Penh destined for cross-border travel to Saigon.

There are probably a couple of other exemptions but as you have chosen not to reveal your nationality/passport being used I won't go in to any more detail.

Best regards. Ian/Angkorlad
