I've paid as much as 480 baht for fried rice (Banyan Tree) and as little as 30 baht (street vendor).

Quality was about the same. Perhaps cleanliness slightly better at Banyan Tree.

So, there can be a HUGE difference depending on where you eat.

Of course I had a nicer chair at the Banyan Tree (and a real napkin)

Yeah Beer is around 35 Baht and the food cost depends upon where and what you are eating. Its not very expensive in thailand. There are options to cut down your food cost.

Really difficult question as there can be a big difference in price between a street stall and a middle to upper class restaurant. so you could pay anything from average £1 to £10+ for a main course.

Decent restaurants can be 10-15 £, dont be surprised if you can get a meal costs 1-2 £ from street vendors.
